Klaro Industrial Design, known as K.I.D, was founded in Sydney in 2019 by Alona Klaro, a trained sculptor who studied interior architecture and worked in fitout sales and project management before starting her own brand. The studio and showroom sit on Enmore Road in Sydney's Inner West, and the company describes the space as a working studio rather than a traditional showroom. Within its first four years the small team had developed around 44 products.

The brand grew from a wish for a commercially focused supplier that could evolve and respond while staying true to its core cause. Alona has described that cause as bringing a slow fashion philosophy to commercial interiors: reducing landfill, supporting local manufacturing and taking the time to build relationships with makers so the studio can answer a brief quickly. Klaro works with architects, interior designers, dealers and specifiers, and aims to give them a complete package of drawings, Revit families and 3D models that slots into design, scheduling, procurement and delivery.

The range spans height-adjustable workstations, tables, seating, ancillary pieces and acoustic products, and it carries a distinctive, softly sculptural language: rounded columns, conical bases, modular lounges and planters in warm, confident colours. Many pieces can be customised in size, finish, top material, base and power integration, and the studio regularly adapts designs for individual projects, from custom leg configurations to longer tops and concealed castors. Klaro's projects include workplaces for HCF and Intermain, and its showroom also hosts talks and creative workshops with the design community.

What sets Klaro apart is how seriously it treats origin and materials. The team considers where a product is made, what it is made from, how long it will last and what happens at the end of its life. Recycled HDPE tops are made from plastic collected and reprocessed in Australia, and chrome-look finishes are achieved with powder coat rather than chrome plating to avoid a hazardous process. Director Stephen, who has more than 30 years in commercial furniture and spent years restoring 40 hectares of New Zealand farmland to native bush, leads the company's push towards more sustainable choices.
