(01) Overview

A system, not a table

The model number sets the footprint and the height, and the top is then specified round, square, rectangular, oval or barrel shaped, with a straight, chamfered or rounded edge. That is how one table works across a cafe, a meeting room and a bar without looking repeated.

Sizes and heights

460 covers 600 to 800 mm tops at cafe scale, 461 runs 900 to 1100 mm, 462 goes to 1500 mm, and 463 is the same footprint at a bar height of 1065 mm. Longer models up to 1500 × 3000 mm are available to order.

Tops

Most models come with a solid wood top or a veneered multiplex top, in beech, oak, rustic oak or American walnut.

Steam-bent solid wood

Every TON piece starts as solid wood that is steamed until it will move, bent over a form and held while it dries. The technique is the one Michael Thonet worked out at this factory in 1861, and the hardest bends are still made by hand. Wood is chosen piece by piece for strength, flexibility and appearance, and frames are hand sanded before finishing.

Wood and finishes

TON finishes to a shared catalogue palette: natural varnish and natural oil, stains including Coffee, Dark Wenge, Dark Chocolate, Nougat, Granite, Honey, Black Grain and Forest Green, and pigment lacquers including White, Cloud Grey, Moon Grey, Grey Shadow, Steam Blue, Graphite Blue, Factory Red and Resin Yellow.

Warranty and testing

TON gives a 10 year warranty on its furniture, excluding parts bought in from outside suppliers. Its tables are tested to EN 1730 and meet level M against EN 12521 and EN 15372, and the wood is FSC certified.
