Zgonic was established in Australia in 2011 and is headquartered in Port Melbourne. The company works in what it calls workspace technology: making the screens, laptops and cables of modern work more efficient and comfortable to use, so the whole workstation performs better. Its products are designed to enhance user comfort, increase desk performance and improve the look of the office, turning the familiar tangle of cables and stands into something calm and orderly. Its motto, Optimal Performance, Infinite Design, sums up the aim of pairing strong engineering with design freedom.

Its first product, the Zgo monitor arm, was developed with Melbourne consultancy Cobalt Design in an 11-month program covering research, engineering, prototyping, testing and tooling. The brief was a monitor arm that fostered a healthy workspace with pure design and could be installed and adjusted without tools. The result used a hand screw and a spring-tensioned four-bar linkage, quick-release screen mounts and colourable side panels that conceal cables, and it received an Australian International Design Award in 2012. Cobalt reports that the arm was also made with 29% recycled content and 99% recyclable materials, an early sign of the environmental thinking the company still promotes.

Those side panels became a signature. Zgonic's patented customisable panels are replaceable and interchangeable, so an arm can carry a company logo, a corporate colour, a department label or an accent drawn from the carpet or upholstery. On the performance side, the Zdock docking station can be retrofitted to any Zgonic arm and routes monitor cables through the arm into the rear of the dock, removing cables from the desktop. Zdock received a Best of NeoCon award in 2021, and the arms support monitors up to 38 inches.

From Melbourne the business has grown into an international group, with entities in the United Kingdom, Singapore, Malaysia, China, South Africa and the United States. In 2023 it appointed ergoCentric as its exclusive partner in Canada and then the USA, and its arms are distributed across Australia, Asia Pacific, Europe, Africa and North America, from home offices to corporate floors. The range now spans single and dual arms, multiscreen post systems, laptop lifters and USB-C docks, all built around the same idea: that the tools on a desk should adjust to the person, not the other way around.
