Lintex is a Swedish family business that has been making writing boards since 1983. Everything it sells goes out under its own name, and the head office and factory sit together in Nybro, a small town in Smaland in southern Sweden, a region the company describes as long associated with innovation, entrepreneurship, manufacturing and its world famous glassworks. From there Lintex supplies dealers through subsidiaries, sales offices and agents across Scandinavia, Europe and the rest of the world, and it keeps control of the whole production chain, including lead times and stock levels.

The factory itself is a converted one. In 2009 Lintex moved into a disused plant that had previously made kitchen cabinet fronts, then built up production and extended the premises. More than 80 per cent of its products are made there today. The work is a mix of handcraft and clever machines: textile is cut on a programmed table and taken to upholsterers who dress locally made wooden frames, orange robots lift and sort boards, a machine glues board elements to enamelled steel, and a carpenter cuts mitre joints in solid oak that are meant to meet so precisely that only a fingertip can feel the join. Quality checks sit at every stage. Lintex says a step that once took 45 minutes by hand now takes ten, and that time saving is what keeps production in Sweden. Deliveries are often within two weeks of ordering, and sometimes within two days for a standard product held in stock.

What Lintex actually offers is narrow and deep. There are three writing surfaces: MOOD Glass, a glossy low iron glass in 24 colours; Silk Glass, a matte version of the same glass with the same palette; and ceramic steel, always white, magnetic, Cradle to Cradle certified and carrying a 30 year warranty on the writing surface. Around those surfaces sit frames, stands and screens by a small circle of Nordic designers, chiefly the Stockholm studio Halleroed, with Matti Klenell, Afteroom, Fredrik Mattson and Nick Ross. The result is a board that reads as a piece of furniture rather than office equipment.

Sustainability is where Lintex is most specific. It has three targets: circular products by 2030, net zero climate impact by 2040, and always to be a net producer of renewable energy. It has met the third since 2022, using geothermal heating and 4,400 rooftop solar panels that generate around 1,600 MWh a year, which is why only two to three per cent of a product's climate footprint comes from manufacturing. Life cycle assessments are third party verified and published as EPDs, the company holds a near term target approved by the Science Based Targets initiative, and it reports a 40 per cent cut in climate impact since 2019 and a halving of waste between 2019 and 2024. It is certified to ISO 14001 and FSC Chain of Custody, and backs its products with a five year warranty and spare parts.
