Niels Diffrient

American industrial designer Niels Diffrient (1928–2013) spent his career placing the human body at the centre of design. Co-author of the landmark Humanscale anthropometric guides, he partnered with Humanscale to create chairs that adjust to the sitter automatically, removing knobs and levers in favour of intelligent mechanisms. The Freedom Chair is his best-known work.
