Flokk is the Oslo-based group behind HÅG, RH, Giroflex, Profim, Offecct and more: a family of design-led brands, united by circular design principles first set down in 1993.

Flokk takes its name from the Norwegian word for a group or a herd, and it fits. Headquartered in Oslo, Flokk is a family of design-led workplace furniture brands whose roots run far deeper than the group itself: Giroflex dates to 1872 in Switzerland, HÅG to 1943 in Norway and RH to the 1970s in Sweden. Together its brands carry more than 400 years of design and manufacturing experience, and Geneva by Design brings several of them to Australian workplaces.

The group took shape in 2007, when Swedish investment firm Ratos acquired HÅG, RH and RBM and combined them as Scandinavian Business Seating, a leading seating maker in Scandinavia. In 2014 the European private equity investor Triton bought the business to accelerate its international growth. Acquisitions followed: BMA Ergonomics of the Netherlands in 2015, Swedish ergonomic chair specialist Malmstolen in 2016, and then, in 2017, Offecct of Sweden and Giroflex of Switzerland. That same year the group became Flokk, a name chosen to reflect its multi-brand strategy.

Growth has continued ever since. Polish manufacturer Profim joined in 2018, and 9to5 Seating of California gave Flokk its first foothold in the United States in 2019. British soft seating and furnitecture specialist Connection followed in 2022, then Stylex of New Jersey in 2024 and Via Seating of Nevada in 2025. In 2026 Flokk added two Canadian companies, Toronto's Spec Furniture and ergoCentric of Mississauga. BMA has since been folded into RH, which now carries its renowned Axia chair. Today Flokk employs around 1,900 people, sells in more than 80 countries, and reported net sales of NOK 4,721 million in 2025, with the United States now its largest single market.

What holds such a varied flock together is a shared set of design principles. Since 1993 every new Flokk product has been developed against what the group calls 5-III: five circular design criteria (low weight, few components, the right materials, a long life span and design for disassembly) serving three focus areas of climate, resources and health. When Flokk acquires a brand, its stated strategy is to lift that brand's sustainability profile to the group's level. The result is a portfolio that ranges from HÅG's active-sitting chairs to Offecct's acoustic furniture, united by a simple vision the group puts in three words: inspire great work.

Making Flokk furniture

(02) How it’s made

From Røros to Turek and beyond

Flokk manufactures in its own factories: Røros in Norway, home of HÅG; Nässjö in Sweden; Turek in central Poland, where Profim is made; and Mirfield in the UK, home of Connection. In North America it builds in Delanco, New Jersey, Sparks, Nevada and the Los Angeles area, alongside a plant in Zhongshan, China, and in 2026 it added Spec's Toronto facility and ergoCentric's plant in Mississauga.

Products are designed for disassembly, with worn parts repairable or replaceable, and come with up to a 10-year warranty. In 2025, 77 per cent of Flokk's electricity was renewable and its products used 1,070 tonnes of recycled plastic. Many top sellers carry ISO 14025 Environmental Product Declarations, and the group holds an EcoVadis Gold rating.

In their words

“The best posture is always the next one.”

— Peter Opsvik, designer of the HÅG Capisco

(03) Design

Many studios, one set of principles

Rather than one house style, Flokk lets each brand keep its own design voice and pairs it with leading independent studios. Peter Opsvik began working with HÅG in the 1970s, shaping its philosophy of movement. Flokk's designer roster also includes Oslo studio Anderssen & Voll, founded in 2009, and London-based Norwegian duo Hunting & Narud. Paolo Fancelli has designed for Giroflex since 1996, alongside Lausanne's BIG-GAME and the German-Swiss ITO Design. Joakim Ahlström and Kristian Eke design for RH.

Every new product is measured against the group's 5-III circular design principles. Since 2025, global design, product development, sustainability and brand strategy across the portfolio have been led by Elisabeth Barrie. The approach is winning recognition: Offecct's Circulus earned Red Dot's Best of the Best and a sustainability award in 2025.
